Introduction
Dr. Avnish Seth is the Director and the Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon with a rich experience of over 2 decades. He is an expert in Diagnostic & Therapeutic GI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP and Liver Transplantation. With a special interest in Endoscopic Ultrasound, Hepatitis B & C, Deceased Organ Donation, he has established the departments of Gastroenterology and Organ Retrieval & Transplantation at many hospitals. Recipient of the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) from the President of India, he has delivered many orations & lectures and has provided guidance to several junior surgeons. With degrees of M.D. (Medicine) from the Pune University and D.M. (Gastroenterology) from PGIMER, Chandigarh, he has held several important positions at various renowned organizations.
Dr. Seth worked as a Consultant to the Armed Forces in Gastroenterology & Hepatobiliary Sciences, headed the Department of Gastroenterology & Liver Diseases at the BLK Super Specialty Hospital, and led the Department at the prestigious Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, where he was the Gastroenterologist to President of India. A former Professor of Medicine at the Delhi University & the Indraprastha University, Dr. Avnish Seth has served as Governing Council Member for the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG) & the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (SGEI). He was also a member of the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Committee on the formulation of national guidelines for Liver Transplantation in the year 2007. Awarded the Fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound from the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA, he was bestowed with a 6 months Fellowship in Liver Transplantation in UK, where he set up a successful Liver Transplant Program at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral). Dr. Avnish Seth also has the credit of launching the Armed Forces Organ Retrieval & Transplantation Authority (AORTA). He has been instrumental in organizing the most successful campaign on Organ Donation after the Brain Death in North India. This campaign resulted in over 70 Liver Transplants, 140 Kidney & Cornea Transplants, and 3 Heart Transplants
